Publications

Royal Armouries is a highly regarded publisher of arms and armour titles with worldwide distribution.

We publish books based on research conducted by our curators and experts, as well as catalogues to accompany our exciting exhibition programme.

Regular academic publications include Arms & Armour: Journal of the Royal Armouries published in association with Taylor and Francis, and our monograph series. Recent monograph titles have included The Italian Vetterli System; Henry VIII: Arms and the Man; and Littlecote: The English Civil War Armoury.

Palmerston's Follies

Fort Nelson is one of the ‘Palmerston Forts’, commissioned in the 1860s by Lord Palmerston, who feared a French attack. By the time they were completed, however, any threat from France disappeared. The forts gained the nickname ‘Palmerston’s follies’.
