Fort Nelson is one of the few places to carry out live black-powder firings of historic artillery pieces.

Come and experience the power and might of the big guns every day at 1pm, when the World War Two 25-pounder Gun Howitzer is fired out on the Parade.

Museum admission and the daily gun firing are free.



11.15am & 1.30pm

Discover the interesting stories behind the history of Fort Nelson with our daily tours. From its Victorian construction to its key role during the Second World War, our experienced guides will take you on a fact-packed 50-minute tour of the Fort.

The tour will take you through the Fort’s famous tunnels, ramparts, artillery hall and impressive galleries.

Tickets are £3 per adult and free for under 16s.

Tickets for tours can be booked on arrival at the Visitor Centre.
