Children's event – Knight School

Child dressed as medieval knight beside a toy castle

10:00am Tuesday 2nd September 2008 - 5:00pm Tuesday 2nd September 2008 at Fort Nelson

It’s a legendary children’s day out – and not only today!

At Fort Nelson, every Tuesday and Thursday during the Summer and half term holidays is an action-packed children’s day.

What you can see and do today…

Knight School

Grab a lance, spur your hobbyhorse down the tilt-rail, and have a go at jousting – you might even win a prize! Also have a go at building a castle for yourself, with an award for the best fortification! Plus try your hand at medieval archery, with toy crossbows for the younger visitors and real longbows for the older ones. Activities run throughout the day (with occasional breaks), the joust being located on grass above the shop, the castle building contest in the Artillery Hall and the archery on the main parade.

Armoury Workshops

Get busy with paper, card and scissors and make yourself a shiny helmet, lance & shield to take home (£2 charge per child applies). Sessions from 10.30am – 12.30pm & 2 – 4pm, in the Education Room.

Children’s Alphabet Trail

Explore the Fort – can you find all 26 letters? Collect an activity sheet from the Information Point beyond the shop and follow the instructions – it’s a great way to see the Fort!

Dramatic Interpretations

For high drama, watch one of our dramatic interpretations, as our resident professional actors in authentic costumes tell tales from history – sometimes stirring, sometimes poignant, always dramatic! These will be performed in the Theatre (near the café).

Entry to the Fort and children’s events is FREE, although a small charge applies for craft activities.

Do something different and bring the kids for a great day out!
