Creating a Recycled Robot Giant - Friday, 3 August 2012
Children are being invited to help create a giant 7ft robot from 1,500 pieces of card as part of a recycling project at Britain’s oldest museum.
The Royal Armouries in Leeds is running the summer holiday event as part of its commitment to community and partnership working, in conjunction with not –for-profit, low-carbon expert company, CO2Sense
, and greetings card manufacturers, Hallmark who are kindly donating the card.
In a week-long project, from Monday, August 13, to Friday, August 17, children will be invited to colour in sections of card, as museum technicians build a giant robot in The Dojo, in the Oriental Gallery.
Youngsters can also design their own robot on paper and take part in a competition to name the robotic giant.
Downstairs, in the museum’s Hall of Steel, CO2Sense will stage an exhibition stand, showing various products made from recycled material, close to a replica of one of the most famous movie robots of all – Iron Man – also currently on display.
CO2Sense helps businesses and public-sector organisations to cut their greenhouse gas emissions and their costs. They work with some of the largest companies in the world to develop projects that will make huge savings in carbon emissions. For more details, visit www.co2sense.co.uk
Royal Armouries Museum director Peter Armstrong said, “We’re delighted to be working with CO2Sense in this way and the project will hopefully encourage children to become more environmentally conscious and aware of the world in which they live.”
The activity runs from 10am to 5pm daily, Monday to Friday – museum admission is free. For more details about the Royal Armouries’ summer events, visit www.royalarmouries.org
