The Royal Armouries is Britain’s national museum of arms and armour.

At the Leeds Museum there are over 8,500 objects on display in five galleries: War; Tournament; Oriental; Self Defence and Hunting.

Visit the newly refurbished Tournament Gallery and experience the might of Henry VIII – king and sportsman.

The Royal Armouries Museum is located at Clarence Dock, only a short distance from the centre of Leeds, West Yorkshire.

Travel

You can use Transport Direct to get directions to the Royal Armouries by car or public transport.

Car

  • The museum is well signposted on all major routes when close to Leeds. Follow the brown tourism signs for Royal Armouries with the ‘horned helmet’ logo.
  • From the North: Follow brown tourism signs on the A64.
  • From the East: M62 east users exit M621 at junction 4 and follow the brown tourism signs.
  • From the South: M1 users exit M621 at junction 4 and follow the brown tourism signs. A1 users follow brown tourism signs on the A64.
  • From the West: M62 users exit M621 at junction 3 and follow the brown tourism signs.

Bus

A number 28 First Leeds bus service runs from Albion Street to Clarence Dock:

  • Albion Street – J5 – outside St. John’s Centre
  • Vicar Lane – M4 – opposite Victoria Quarter
  • York Street – F5 – outside Leeds Bus/Coach Station
  • Crown Point Road – A4 – in front of Etap hotel
  • Chadwick Street – A1 – 100 metres from museum entrance

Boat

  • Clarence Dock is on the Aire/Calder Navigation and has a large number of berths for narrow boats and cruisers.

Bicycle

  • The museum stands on National Cycle Network Route 67.
  • Bicycle racks are provided close to the museum entrance.
  • Please ensure that your bicycle is properly locked at all times and valuables removed.

Walk

  • A 10 minute walk from Leeds Bus Station – follow the signs.
  • A 20 minute walk from Leeds Rail Station.
  • The Trans Pennine Trail runs by the museum.

Parking

  • A privately operated multi-storey secure car parking is located only 100 metres from the museum entrance. This is chargeable.
  • 5 disabled parking spaces are provided next to the Arena close to the museum entrance. See Access page for more details.
  • 10 coach parking spaces are provided next to the Arena close to the museum entrance.
