Creative Copper

Creative Copper is suitable for older Key Stage Two pupils.

We use objects from our collection as inspiration for this session as we look at the real science behind the art of armour decoration. Whether it’s the chemical reactions behind etching or physical properties such as malleability, students can release their creativity scientifically on copper.

A flash in the pan

This expression originates with the misfire of a flintlock or similar gun. The powder in the pan was supposed to ignite the main charge in the barrel. Sometimes only the powder in the pan flashed without firing the main charge.
