Why do we remember Florence Nightingale?
This new workshop, recently launched for Key Stage One school groups offers a fast-paced and interactive look at the life and work of Florence Nightingale.
Her skill and organisation during the Crimean War led to the ultimate change in military medical practice and helped to save a great many lives.
The hospital and dispensary at Fort Nelson were designed using her specifications, making the Victorian fort a highly appropriate site to learn about the Lady with the Lamp.
By studying the life of Florence Nightingale at Fort Nelson, children will:
- Learn about what it means to be famous and who is famous
- Discover what people wore in the past and what their clothes can tell us about their personality
- Experience the life of a Victorian Soldier!
- Examine real and replica gun and cannon from the Crimean war
- Recognise how nurses can make injured men feel better through personal experience
- Delve into the medicine chest of a Victorian Doctor
- Meet Florence Nightingale and listen to her story
