Science Outreach

We offer a number of outreach sessions for schools in material science using objects from our collection.

Metal Box

The content of this box reflects the metals that we have in our armour collection, concentrating on some particular metals and associated experiments.

Polymer Box

This is a comprehensive programme containing ideas for experiments and discussion as well as power point displays, samples and pictures. It has been created for Key Stages three and four to link in with, compliment and support the National Curriculum.

It can be used by teachers in school and combined with an object based material science outreach session.

Object based material science session

We can bring a limited number of objects from the collection out to your school. In these sessions we will discuss the properties of materials, how they are processed and whether they are suitable for body protection.

Perfecting Progression – Amazing Armour

A look at the progression of armour from the Norman period to the modern day.
We will look at the physics involved and help to develop Science Literacy.

This is a FREE OUTREACH session for Libraries and other informal learning groups, suitable for ages 7 to 70!

We have a limited number of free sessions due to funding from the Institute of Physics.
