History: Conflict Through Time

pupils dressed in early armour and world war one uniform

Our collection is ideal for exploring ideas of continuity and change over long periods of time, and the similarities and differences between people from different social classes.

Our Analysing Objects sessions allow students to get to grips with the nature of different sources of evidence in the Medieval, Tudor, English Civil War, or Modern periods.

Our Hands On sessions are ideal for exploring and identifying thematic changes in the Medieval period, or our Analysing Objects sessions.

The English Civil Wars are a turning point in the long-term changing relationship between Crown and Parliament, and indeed the development of arms and armour. The First World War was a turning point for both the way in which wars were fought and the attitudes and perceptions of warfare itself. Our Hands On sessions bring these ideas to life.

Did you know?

A flash in the pan

This expression originates with the misfire of a flintlock or similar gun. The powder in the pan was supposed to ignite the main charge in the barrel. Sometimes only the powder in the pan flashed without firing the main charge.
