Royal Armouries - three sites

On-site Learning

On-site learning is available at all two of the Royal Armouries sites, through our specialist Learning Teams.

A full range of lessons are available for all age ranges and abilities.

If you have specific requirements then we offer bespoke lessons too.

Please use our questionnaire to let us know your requirements.

Choose a site from those listed below, you will then have a choice of either a Self-Led Visit or an Education-Led Visit.

Self-Led Visits

Self-Led visits allow you to utilise our galleries and collection to best fit your lessons according to your needs. You will find useful downloads in this section to help organise and plan you lessons. We fully endorse the philosophy of the Learning Outside the Classroom Manifesto and are delighted to announce that the Royal Armouries in Leeds have been awarded the Learning Outside the Classroom Quality Badge.

Education-Led Visits

Education-Led visits allow you to utilise the experience and expertise of our Learning Team. Our Learning Team are extremely knowledgeable and passionate about the Royal Armouries collection. Their breadth and depth of knowledge is astounding, ranging from academic publications, family and local history, to Art Clubs and working with children under five.

Our Learning Team provides excellent kinaesthetic educational experiences which link to the National Strategies and Curricula but also provide cross-curricula links and promote creativity and enrichment learning.

Old idea, new materials

The tips of the lances used by the Royal Armouries jousters are made from balsa wood and are designed to be broken, this was something that was done in some tournaments in the 15th century, though not using balsa wood.
