To kill a King

The Royal Armouries has one of the largest collections of arms and armour from the English Civil Wars and is the ideal venue to bring students studying this fascinating period. History will come to life as students investigate pieces from our special handling collection and trying their hand at pike and musket drills.

YOUR VISIT WILL INCLUDE BOTH A HANDS ON HISTORY SESSION AND A DISCOVER@ SESSION (BOTH 45 MINS)

Hands on History

Using written sources, visual images and objects students will consider the evidence we have for the English Civil Wars.

They will learn about the different types of soldiers and the arms and armour they used, including pikemen, harquebusiers and musketeers, as well as considering the role of women in the wars.
Student will analyse the objects and discuss why each soldier needed a different type of armour and why so many significant developments were made over a short period of time.
