Hands on History
Using written sources, visual images and objects students will consider the evidence we have for the English Civil Wars.
They will learn about the different types of soldiers and the arms and armour they used, including pikemen, harquebusiers and musketeers, as well as considering the role of women in the wars.
Student will analyse the objects and discuss why each soldier needed a different type of armour and why so many significant developments were made over a short period of time.
Students will handle and examine weapons from the period and investigate how they would be used in battle.
History will be brought to life as students, using replica weapons, will be trained in simple musket and pike drills, taken from a contemporary book in the collection.Do your students have what it takes to be a soldier in the English Civil Wars?
