Key Stage 2: Discover World War II

Surviving the Blitz

The Second World War is the deadliest conflict in human history. It affected not only those fighting but also those left behind at home. This workshop will help students discover what life was like for those on the homefront and what they needed to do to survive the blitz.

Hands on History

Using real objects from the period, students will explore how life affected each member of the family. From the young boy being evacuated to the mother mending her own clothes, the war affected every aspect of society. Student will work together to complete tasks that explore these topics.

Students will be transported back to 1942, and experience life in the war. They will see how important messages are distributed to the public, what role the ARP warden played and even experience an air raid! It is recommended that students attend this session in period costume to full immerse themselves in the experience.
