SMOKE AND THUNDER

Mortar being fired at night

6:00pm Friday 17th May 2013 - 9:00pm Friday 17th May 2013 at Fort Nelson

Museums at Night Part of the Culture 24 nationwide Museums at Night cultural festival.

Experience the might and power of the big guns after dark – featuring Victorian and Second World War artillery.

Highlight of the evening, as seen on the BBC Great British Railway Journeys series, will be a special firing of the 32-pounder Victorian gun from its position in the North Caponier. Feel the ground shake as its immense power is released in an explosion of sound and smoke.*

Enjoy the out-of-hour’s museum experience with engaging presentations in the galleries throughout the evening and the chance to explore the hospital, barrack room and tunnels.

Witness the agility of the Second World War Sexton field gun as it patrols the parade ground and fires its awesome weapon, bringing this dramatic evening to a climactic close.

*Tunnel gun firings have limited numbers; please arrive early to avoid disappointment.
