Christopher Case

After completing an Apprenticeship in Mechanical Engineering, Christopher Case joined Merseyside Fire Brigade as a firefighter in 1991, serving at St Helens and other stations in the County.

He moved through the ranks and following postings in Operational, Planning and Training disciplines he became the Station Commander at Toxteth Fire Station taking on the management of one of the most challenging and diverse areas in the UK. At the time when the service was moving to improve its fire prevention and education work, Chris oversaw and number of new initiatives with partner agencies to reduce fires, deaths and injuries.

Chris was transferred to Merseyside Police in 2003 to create the UK’s first dedicated pyrotechnics crime team comprising of Police, Fire and Forensic officers, working closely with agencies around the world. The team has had a dramatic effect on fireworks related crime and now assist other agencies in managing similar challenges.

This groundbreaking partnership work was expanded when Chris returned to the Fire Service and the concept of the Threat Response Group was launched in 2005, combining all the teams that combat fire criminality such as Fire Investigators, Arson Task Force Officers and Explosives Officers and bringing them together to manage the threats faced in a post 9-11 world and to reduce the potential for criminal fires to cause damage to the community.

This concept is was further expanded when Chris took joint Management of the first UK Police / Fire Anti-Social Behaviour Task Force with teams working to reduce ASB and to tackle key issues such as knife crime and gang culture.

Around this work Chris is a visiting lecturer at the Fire Service College, the Army School of Ammunition and is an Associate Lecturer to Anglia Ruskin University. He consults on investigations around the world and has advised on the framing of guidance and legislation both in the UK, EU and worldwide.

Mr Case is a member of various Associations and Institutes such as the Institute of Fire Engineers, International Association of Bomb Technicians and Investigators, International Association of Arson Investigators and the Institute of Explosives Engineers where he sits on the Presiding Council.

Christopher Case became a Trustee of the Royal Armouries in November 2008.
